How EEK Vets and Monitors Workshop Partners Across New Zealand
How EEK vets NZIFDA-certified workshops and monitors each recovery so tow-to-workshop misfuel care is consistent, safe, and transparent.
Why workshop standards matter for misfuel recovery
Putting the wrong fuel in a vehicle is stressful, but the recovery process should not be. When a petrol or diesel misfuel happens, EEK Mechanical follows a simple model: a tow truck collects your vehicle from the forecourt, roadside, home, or car park, and a NZIFDA-certified workshop completes the manufacturer-spec fuel system recovery. That workshop-only step matters, because the quality of the workshop network is what keeps every recovery consistent, safe, and accountable.
Fuel system recovery is not performed at the collection location. Scene work is limited to safe loading and towing. The specialist equipment and controlled environment are at the workshop, where technicians can follow the procedures set out for your make and model.
How EEK vets a workshop before it joins the network
Every workshop partner must hold current NZIFDA certification. EEK verifies that certification directly and reviews documented evidence of the workshop's qualifications, insurance, premises, fuel handling equipment, and waste disposal arrangements. Approval is not automatic.
Before a workshop can accept EEK recovery jobs, it must also demonstrate experience with manufacturer-spec fuel system procedures across common vehicle types. EEK looks for clean, organised facilities, clear safety processes, and the ability to communicate accurately with customers and with EEK during a live recovery.
Ongoing monitoring and quality checks
Vetting is only the start. EEK monitors each job from collection to completion, reviewing condition reporting, arrival times, workmanship, documentation, and whether the workshop followed the agreed recovery process. Regular audits cover equipment calibration, staff training records, environmental compliance, and data handling.
If a workshop does not meet the expected standard, it is supported with retraining or removed from the network. Regular monitoring supports consistent service and clearer accountability.
What this means for you after a misfuel
When you call the customer hotline, EEK arranges a tow truck and assigns a vetted workshop. The workshop completes manufacturer-spec fuel system recovery, then provides clear reporting on what was done. Recovery costs are fully itemised and vary by tow distance, after-hours timing, vehicle type, and contamination severity. If the vehicle was driven after the wrong fuel went in, additional component checks may be needed, and those repair costs are separate from the recovery invoice and can be substantial.
What to do now
Stop the vehicle, avoid turning the engine on, and call the EEK customer hotline on 0800 769 000. Our team will arrange vehicle collection and workshop recovery. For itemised pricing information, see the rate card. Do not attempt to move the vehicle or start it; the safest action is to wait for the tow truck and let the workshop handle the rest.
