What Fleet Drivers Should Do After Realizing Wrong Fuel Was Used

Realizing you have used the wrong fuel in your vehicle can be a stressful situation. Here are some practical steps to take within the first five minutes after noticing the issue:

Step 1: Safely Park Your Vehicle

Ensure that your vehicle is safely parked on a flat surface away from any traffic or hazards. This will prevent accidents and ensure you have time to address the situation.

Step 2: Contact EEK Mechanical

The first thing you should do is contact EEK Mechanical’s customer hotline at 0800 769 000. They can provide guidance and direct you to the appropriate next steps. Remember, EEK dispatches a tow truck to collect your vehicle from its current location.

Step 3: Follow Up with EEK Mechanical

Once the tow truck arrives, follow up with EEK Mechanical for further instructions. The workshop will then transport your vehicle to a NZIFDA-certified workshop where manufacturer-spec fuel system recovery will be completed. This process is handled by the workshop and not at the collection location.

Step 4: Monitor Your Vehicle

After the tow truck has collected your vehicle, monitor it closely for any signs of damage or issues that may arise from using the wrong fuel. If you notice anything unusual, contact EEK Mechanical immediately to inform them of the situation.

Step 5: Review and Understand Your Recovery Costs

Once your vehicle is at the workshop, review the recovery costs with EEK Mechanical. They will provide a detailed breakdown of all expenses involved in the process, including tow truck fees, labour charges, disposal costs, replacement fuel, parts, booking fee, and NZIFDA filing fee.

Step 6: Stay Informed

Stay informed about your recovery progress by checking back with EEK Mechanical for updates. They will keep you updated on the status of your vehicle and any additional steps that may be required.
