EEK Mechanical Expands South Island Coverage in 2026
EEK Mechanical has added new certified workshop partners across the South Island in 2026 — including Marlborough, the West Coast, Queenstown-Lakes, and Southland. Here is what the expansion means for previously underserved regions.
Filling the Gaps in South Island Coverage
When EEK Mechanical first established its nationwide workshop network, coverage was strongest in the major urban centres — Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Hamilton. South Island coverage outside Christchurch and Dunedin was thinner than our team was comfortable with. A misfuel in Westport, Queenstown, or Invercargill could mean a two-to-three-hour tow to the nearest certified workshop, adding significantly to cost and downtime for the customer.
From 1 March 2026, that has changed. A programme of workshop partner certifications completed over the preceding six months has resulted in a significantly denser South Island coverage map, with certified workshops now operating in four previously underserved regions.
New Workshop Partners by Region
Marlborough (Blenheim)
EEK's new Marlborough partner workshop covers the wine-country region and the Marlborough Sounds approaches. The Marlborough region sees substantial tourist traffic — particularly campervans and hire vehicles travelling between the Picton ferry terminal and the South Island's holiday destinations — making misfuel recovery capability here particularly important. Average tow distance for Marlborough incidents has reduced from over 90 minutes to under 30 minutes for most of the region.
West Coast (Greymouth)
The West Coast has long been one of New Zealand's most challenging regions for any roadside recovery service. A certified workshop in Greymouth now provides coverage for the Buller, Grey, and Westland districts. Remote sections of State Highway 6 and the Haast Pass route remain extended-response areas, but the majority of West Coast incidents now have a certified workshop within a practical tow distance.
Queenstown-Lakes (Queenstown)
Queenstown's tourism volumes mean it has always been a high-incident area — particularly for hire vehicles and rental campervans driven by visitors unfamiliar with diesel. EEK's Queenstown certified workshop now means that misfuels occurring in the Queenstown-Lakes area, Wānaka corridor, and the Crown Range approaches can be handled locally rather than requiring a lengthy tow to Cromwell or Dunedin.
Southland (Invercargill)
Invercargill and the surrounding Southland region complete the South Island coverage expansion. The new workshop covers the Invercargill and Gore areas, with extended tow coverage to the Fiordland and Catlins regions. This is EEK's southernmost certified workshop, completing a South Island network that now stretches from Picton to Bluff.
What Has Not Changed
