Water in Oil Recovery in NZ — What to Expect From Start to Finish

Wondering what happens when you call EEK Mechanical about water in your engine oil? Here is the complete process from your call to collecting your vehicle.

Step 1: You Call — Engine Stays Off

Call 0800 769 000. The most important thing before you call: do not start the engine. Do not turn the key. Leave the vehicle exactly where it is. Tell us your location, vehicle rego, and what you are seeing — milky oil, frothy oil, a suspected flood event, or coolant loss. We take the details and dispatch immediately.

Step 2: Tow Truck Collection

We dispatch a tow truck to collect your vehicle. Average response time is 30-90 minutes depending on your location. The driver will confirm the vehicle has not been started and load it safely. The vehicle travels to the nearest EEK Mechanical certified workshop — you do not drive it there.

Step 3: Workshop Assessment

At the workshop, a certified technician inspects the vehicle. They check the dipstick, oil cap, and coolant reservoir, look for external leaks, and photograph the contamination state. They identify the source of the contamination — head gasket, oil cooler, flood water — and document their findings. This assessment forms the technical basis of your report.

Step 4: Oil Drain, Flush, and Refill

The workshop drains all contaminated oil from the sump and oil system, flushes the system with a professional flushing agent, replaces the oil filter, and refills with fresh oil to manufacturer specification. Contaminated oil is collected in certified containers and disposed of through licensed hazardous waste contractors.

Step 5: Report and Invoice

Once complete, you receive a written Oil Contamination Report by email — suitable for insurance claims, warranty disputes, or workshop repair authorisation. Your invoice is itemised: tow, workshop labour, oil disposal, oil and filter, and the NZIFDA compliance filing fee. All prices are fixed and disclosed in advance.
