EEK Mechanical's Network is Ready for Winter 2026
EEK Mechanical has expanded its workshop network coverage, updated its tow fleet, and increased operator certifications ahead of winter 2026. Here is what customers can expect over the colder months.
Preparing for New Zealand's Busiest Recovery Season
Winter is EEK Mechanical's busiest season. Cold weather, reduced visibility, tired drivers, and the combination of school terms and long commutes all contribute to an elevated misfuelling rate between June and August. For 2026, we have made the most significant investment in network capacity in EEK's history — adding new workshop partners, refreshing tow fleet equipment, and expanding coverage into regions that were previously underserved.
Expanded Workshop Coverage
From 1 May 2026, EEK's certified workshop network has been expanded with new primary workshop partners in:
- Northland (Whangārei): A new primary workshop covering the Far North and Northland region, reducing average response times in this area significantly.
- Gisborne: EEK's first dedicated certified workshop in Tairāwhiti, serving the East Coast and Poverty Bay region.
- Nelson / Tasman: An additional South Island workshop partner covering the top of the South Island and the Marlborough Sounds approaches.
- Invercargill: Extended Southland coverage to reach Fiordland and the deep south more effectively.
These additions mean that over 97% of New Zealand's registered vehicle population now has an EEK certified workshop within two hours' tow truck travel time.
Updated Tow Fleet
Our towing partners have invested in updated equipment for winter 2026. Key improvements include:
- New flatbed tilt-tray trucks in the Auckland and Wellington networks, improving loading safety for low-clearance vehicles
- Updated GPS dispatch systems for faster response time calculation and routing
- Improved communication links between tow operators and our workshop coordination team
Increased Operator Certifications
Every workshop in the EEK network holds current NZIFDA Tier 1 Operator certification. Over the past quarter, we have onboarded eight new certified technicians across the network, increasing capacity for concurrent job processing at our busiest workshops. All new technicians have completed full NZIFDA contaminated fuel handling and disposal training.
What Customers Can Expect This Winter
If you misfuel this winter, the process is exactly the same as it has always been: call 0800 769 000, do not start the engine, and we handle everything from there. A tow truck comes to you, your vehicle is transported to the nearest certified workshop, and our technicians complete a full drain, flush, filter replacement, and test before returning your vehicle to the road.
Our 24/7 service does not stop for winter weather. If anything, our team is most alert and most prepared during the colder months, when demand is highest and conditions are most challenging. We look forward to supporting New Zealand drivers through winter 2026.
